The following services are offered to help you as you begin your adventure into the world of authordom!
Basic editing includes grammar, punctuation, and spell check with no suggestions or recommendations and little or no comments. The idea is to do a quick read and provide you with feedback in order that you will be ready to begin the publication process for any format or style.
Copy editing includes basic editing, recommendations for style and how to meet general guidelines in preparation for publication. The copy editing process determines that the language and style used are appropriate for the audience and genre specified. In addition, copy editing checks that spellings of unusual names are consistent; that the structure, plot flow, characterization, and tone fit with the intent of the story; that a smooth transition exists between one thought to the next; that inconsistencies are flagged and queried with the Author; that illustrations are properly identified and in the appropriate location for clarity; There is a limited number of suggestions, recommendations, and comments provided to guide the Author’s revision. The copy editing process can be done as a total project and is negotiable depending on the Author’s budget and expectations.
Manuscript Evaluation & Critique
A manuscript evaluation and critique includes detailed copy-editing as well as more involved suggestions for revision, such as recommendations on how to improve presentation of the story or novel along with some rewriting suggestions to provide a clear picture of concerns or areas requiring rewrite. This is negotiable depending on the Author’s budget and expectations.
Developmental editing involves the entire development and organization of a book, the characters, the story line, and the pace in which it is told. The Development Editor often suggests the order in which the chapters will be presented, as well as the overall content, flow, and arrangement of text. When the Developmental Editor is finished, the book will be ready to be sent to a copy editor.

Along the way, you will fall in love with the author K.R. Thompson and her stories!“I am honored to have worked with Pam B. Newberry of J.K. Brooks Publishing on my newest release, The Wolf. Pam did a superb job with both the editing and formatting of this book that made my story shine. She brings a level of excellence and professionalism that is difficult to find in the world of independent publishing. She takes the time to teach the author so that he or she may grow in his or her writing career.
